Android Now Outselling iPhone [REPORT

Smartphones carrying Google’s Android operating system outsold the iPhone in the first quarter of 2010, according tonew research out today from NPD.
During the quarter, Android handsets accounted for 28% of smartphone sales, beating out iPhone OS and its 21% share. BlackBerry was the bestselling OS, with its devices capturing 36% of the market. NPD attributes the shift to strong sales of the Motorola Droid and Droid Eris.
The news follows a report last month from AdMob that showed Android’s share of the mobile OS market had actually grown past that of iPhone OS, at least in the U.S. Worldwide, iPhone OS still has a big lead, however, with 46% share compared to Android’s 25%. AdMob’s data is based on ad requests across mobile websites and applications.
With the new Droid Incredible reportedly selling quite well, this trend may continue in the near-term. However, the fourth-generation iPhone is expected to debut next month. Rumors that the iPhone will soon come to Verizon also continue to intensify, with that carrier’s customers indicating they are ready to welcome the devicewith open arms. If all of that happens, the numbers could quickly swing back in Apple’s favor. Stay tuned.

Driver Out Today In iTunes Store

And the classic hits just keep on coming! It seems like not a day goes by without yet another fondly remembered game making its way onto the iPhone. Today it’s the turn of Driver, a driving game (you probably guessed that!) where you get to play as Tanner, the undercover cop/ getaway driver tearing it up around the streets of four locations: Miami, LA, New York and San Francisco. Set in the 1970s, the original game was released in 1999 and spawned several sequels, as well as revolutionizing the whole concept of driving games, and it looks like Gameloft has done an excellent job of restoring it to its former glory for the iPhone. The graphics have generally been buffed up, and you now have an in-car radio with three different radio stations blaring out ‘70s music. The story mode boasts 40 missions, and there are also Training and Free Play modes and Driving games. All the amazing stunts and tricks from the PlayStation original are back and better than ever, and the city environments look incredible, complete with working traffic lights (not that you’ll be paying much attention to them!) jaywalking pedestrians and much more. Although controls can sometimes be a problem when bringing these older games to the iPhone, Driver has lots of different control options to enable you to find the one that suits your gameplay style best. Check out the trailer, it looks awesome

iPhone news release boosts stock price to all time high, amid federal investigation

As federal investigators continue to probe Apple for possible accounting fraud, stocks reach an all time high with the news of Apple's newest hand held device dubbed the "iPhone".

"Apple's stock has been trading at all-time highs this week after Jobs unveiled one of the company's most important products in years -- the iPhone."

As for possible fraud federal officials are now looking into Grant money CEO of Apple Steve Jobs received as well as a recentyl filed lawsuit pertaining to the trademark over the "iphone".

"Jobs' dramatic introduction of the multimedia gadget led to a federal trademark-infringement lawsuit from Cisco Systems Inc., which has owned the trademark on the name "iPhone" since 2000 and began shipping its own line of iPhone-branded Internet-enabled phones in spring of 2006."

While it's yet to be determined how the federal investigation and iphone lawsuit will all play out, but one thing is for sure, regardless of the outcome i still want an iPhone.

How to do a complete backup of blackberry with all the applications and stuff?

Ahh, last week I finally got the Bold 9700! And while I want to play around with it a bit before posting review, checking the new OS5 features we already mentioned… Anyhow, before I used Desktop Manager to “change device” to new Bold, I wanted to make a full backup of my Bold 9000 in case I needed to go back/just to have a full backup handy. Normally when you do a backup all the data is backed, but this is not the case with 3rd party applications…

So, if you are like me, you probably have many 3rd party applications installed, and it is a few hours work to find/reinstall them again (especially if you bought some of them, in which case, you have to first find that email with user data/serial/download link etc)… Anyhow, a full backup with all 3rd party apps is the solutions. But how to do it?

Well, it is simple. First make sure you have the latest Desktop Manager installed, as this method only works with Desktop manager 4.7 and higher. Besides – if you have Desktop manager prior to 5.x you are missing out, as Desktop manager 5 is faster!

1) Plug in device>Open Desktop Manager>Device Switch Wizard

2) Device Switch Wizard>BlackBerry devices

3) Make sure ONLY 3rd Party Applications is checked>Select Next

4) Desktop Manager will back up 3rd party apps, when finished DO NOT select Next or Cancel!!!

5) Search your computer Files & Folders and DEFINITELY make sure to search HIDDEN FILES & FOLDERS for a folder with the same name as your PIN and a .alx file.

6) Move both the folder and .alx file to an easy a accessible place you remember.

7) Go back to the Desktop Manager and cancel the process.

New Blackberry OS will be QNX OS!

RIM acquired Canadian Ottawa-based QNX Software earlier this year for around $200 million. Now it is becoming clear that RIM gained exclusive access to QNX's software technology, including operating system for more graphical devices. RIM's CEO announced that QNX will run new RIM's devices, including its newly announced PlayBook tablet, at company's annual conference for developers Blackberry DevCon in SF.

Newly launched PlayBook tablet computer will be first RIM's device to run brand new QNX operating system. Device is targeted to ship in Q1 of 2011 for US, and in second quarter for the European market.

RIM confirmed that new QNX based operating system will power its recently unveiled PlayBook tablet , and that QNX OS will gradually replace the aging BlackBerry OS that is still running on all BB devices. IntoMobile reported that RIM's VP acknowledged that QNX OS core technology would eventually phase out the Blackberry OS itself. VP said that Blackberry OS 7 will be a stepping stone for a full switch on to QNX in the future BlackBerry devices.

Let us remind you, that RIM unveiled the BB OS 6 at the start of August 2010, which means approximately 14-months after Blackberry OS version 5 came the market. Analysts expect that the BlackBerry OS version 7 will be released before end of 2011, and that QNX-based system nicknamed Blackberry OS 8 will be launched sometime in 2012-2013.

Tethering settings removed from iPad 4.2 Beta 3

When iOS 4.2 beta 2 for iPad was released we reported that tethering preferences were added to 3G iPads on certain carriers. This created speculation that Apple would be adding iPhone-like tethering to WiFi + 3G models of the iPad. Now that iPad 4.2 beta 3 has been released, we have discovered that Apple has removed the tethering settings. As you can see in the screenshot below, tethering options are no longer present under the ‘Cellular Data’ fields.

Apple removing these tethering preferences can mean a few things. The most realistic reasons include Apple deciding to scrap the feature or Apple removing the feature until iOS 4.2′s official launch in November. Another possibility is that the tethering settings from beta 2 were simply a code mixup with the iPhone and the feature is not planned for a future iPad software release. We still like to think tethering will see the light of day. Oh, and iPhone as a wireless modem for iPad please? Thanks, Anton.

-Engadget finds an early prototype next-gen MacBook Air

Frankly, we are not amused. Here’s a prototype MacBook Air from April that Engadget dug up.

According to the person with the goods, it is a 13-inch variety, just like the current version. We’re obviously noticing those new battery compartments where the hard drive/SSD used to be. Additionally we’re seeing a black hinge which would make it look a little more ‘modern’. We’re also seeing USB plugs on the left and right sides, Mini DisplayPort and an SD card reader on the left, and a power plug on the right.

But here’s where it goes bad:Same processor and 2GB of RAM as the current model. Someone wake us up from this bad dream. Hopefully, as Engadget states, this is an early prototype and, if nothing else, at least 4GB of RAM and the current MacBook Pro processor/chipset makes its way into the shipping version.
